Greeting

We are delighted to announce the founding of Promusica Baroque Academy’s long-awaited vocal ensemble, Musica Victoria!
As its inaugural concert, on Fri., June 16 we present Le Nuove Musiche — “New Music.”

Gathering members of outstanding voice and musicianship, we take the first step toward forging our own distinctive sound.

Around 1600, as an antithesis to the complexity of polyphony and the difficulty of hearing the text, the monodic style was established. Its greatest popularizer was surely Caccini. We will perform the masterpieces of his published Le Nuove Musiche with an approach that emphasizes Promusica Baroque Academy’s motto: “the pursuit of style.”
Though these works are four hundred years old, they carry the energy of an age that opened a new era, and we are convinced they will sound fresh even today.

Between pieces, Tsumuraya will shape the flow with improvisation.
To help the audience go deeper and imagine the scenes of the texts, we will provide surtitles on the day.

Promusica Baroque Academy, too, is striving to open a new era.
Please experience in the hall the energy of not “addition” but “multiplication” between these singers and Tsumuraya — a performance given with all our strength!
