子曰、學而時習之、不亦説乎、有朋自遠方来、不亦楽乎、人不知而不慍、不亦君子乎。
The Master said, “Is it not a pleasure to learn and, at due times, to practice what one has learned? Is it not a joy when friends come from afar? Is he not a gentleman who remains unperturbed though others take no note of him?”
If one studies and reviews and practices what one has learned whenever the opportunity arises, that learning becomes true knowledge of one’s own. How joyful that is! And when one’s own character is settled, kindred spirits and fellow travelers naturally appear; if they come from afar, how delightful that too must be! Yet even if one is upright, the world does not always recognize it. At times one may be misunderstood or misconstrued. If, in such cases, one knows one’s place, is content without chasing fame, neither resenting Heaven nor blaming others, and acts according to what one believes, then one may truly be called a gentleman of cultivated virtue.
Ensemble profile
Promusica Baroque Academy was founded in December 2020 as an early-music orchestra. Core members include violinists Rieko Ikeda, Yuri Sakamano, and Takuto Takagishi; cellist Toru Yamamoto; oboist Go Arai; and harpsichordist Toshiki Tsumuraya. Like a “Reiwa Black Ship,” the team aims to revitalize the music scene in Japan and abroad through a fresh approach that combines technology with early music. Through video production that deepens artists’ craft and musicianship, further establishment of hybrid concert-plus-streaming formats, and new forms of engagement with audiences, the ensemble seeks to share information with the world and contribute to society.
